The IAU invites its National Members to submit Letters of Intent to host the IAU XXXIV General Assembly in 2030 (GA2030). This key triennial IAU event takes place over 10–12 days, offering a rich scientific programme and facilitating meetings and new collaborations between astronomers. The deadline to submit Letters of Intent is 1 November 2023.

The GA2030 programme will include 6 Symposia and 12 Focus Meetings selected by the IAU Executive Committee. There will also be Invited Discourses by distinguished scientists, scientific meetings organised by the 9 IAU Divisions, meetings organised by each of the 4 IAU Offices and the Executive Committee Working Groups, IAU administrative sessions, public lectures, and a social and network-oriented programme.

Hosting an IAU General Assembly is an exciting prospect for any member state and its local astronomy community and region, bringing together a few thousand visiting astronomers from across the world to share their latest research. The IAU strives to offer this opportunity to as many countries around the world as possible. Therefore, please note that countries that have hosted GAs within the last 15 years (i.e. countries that have hosted one of the last five GAs) are unlikely to be selected to host GA2030.

Important Dates:

• 1 November 2023: Deadline for brief Letters of Intent to host GA2030. These should be submitted to the General Secretary (IAU-general.secretary@iap.fr and iauinfos@iap.fr); 
• 1 December 2023: Deadline for the information requested from all proposers, see Additional Questions in the GA Hosting Rules & Guidelines. This should also be submitted to the General Secretary; 
• 15 December 2023: A shortlist of four proposers will be compiled, and an invitation for full proposals will be sent out;
• 1 April 2024: Bid Books are due.
