Astronomy for Development: CAP Journal Special Issue

The IAU’s Office of Astronomy for Development (OAD) and Office for Astronomy Outreach (OAO) have teamed up to publish the first edition of the Communicating Astronomy with the Public (CAP) Journal focused on communicating astronomy for development. This special issue will feature articles addressing how outreach, public engagement and the popularisation of astronomy can be used effectively for development.

Submissions are sought from individuals and groups around the world who have conducted such outreach projects with the goal of using astronomy as a tool for development. Articles are particularly encouraged from relevant projects funded by the OAD, as well as OAD recommended projects.

Abstracts are now being accepted for consideration, and should be about 1000 characters in length (maximum character count). Abstract submission closes on 20 July 2019, and the authors of the selected abstracts will be informed in early August. Guidelines will be provided to the successful authors to enable them to develop their abstracts into full articles, with a deadline of 30 September 2019 for full article submission. The final articles should be between 800 and 1500 words, and will be revised and approved by the CAP Journal Editorial Board.
