In 2019, the International Astronomical Union (IAU) is celebrating its 100th anniversary with a year-long initiative aimed at increasing awareness of a century of astronomical discoveries. The celebrations will also support and improve the use of astronomy as a tool for education, development and diplomacy under the overarching theme “Under One Sky”. Today, the IAU is launching the IAU100 website with up-to-date information about this initiative.
The IAU100 website highlights the main goals of the initiative as well as the different global programmes organised to achieve them. It also details the significance of the 100th anniversary of the IAU, highlighting important milestones as well as illustrating the distribution of events taking place.
One of the main purposes of the website is to host information about IAU100 celebrations around the world, including the contact information of national nodes as well as details of the events themselves. It will serve as a platform where people can learn about the latest updates and which will allow people worldwide to join in with the IAU’s astronomical celebrations by including their own events in the IAU100 Event Calendar.
The website also includes resources related to astronomy and information about partnership opportunities.
The IAU100 website can be accessed here.
